escalation ✘ where she glows just like grain on the flickering pane of some great movie

Bad news, like good news, usually comes in threes; Bellamy finds himself waiting for the second and the third after the toxicology report comes in and confirms that it had been a muscle relaxant and not a sedative. They come in quick succession when news arrives of a second body dump in South Bank that 'looks connected', followed by the information that they're looking at four bodies this time and not three.

"Someone was in a hurry," Gillis observes grimly, looking at the bruising on the second woman's arms, her cut palm - and the head injury that looks, at a guess, like she had it slammed into something. "Our wee friend's already getting sloppy."

"Yeah," Bellamy sighs, his eyes on the baphomet on their wrists. Two men, two women - probably couples - in what looks like the same age range as the last victims. They're going to have to go back to Alkahest again, he thinks, and straightens under the awareness of Gillis's eyes on him. "Let's see if we can't find out where the pavulon came from."

On the way to Alkahest, they end up discussing the possible implications of the second set of victims over their second set of carefully cropped morgue shots. (One of which was taken, mercifully, in profile.) Gillis is inclined to think that if he's already fucking up, their odds of catching him quicker just went up - and Bellamy's inclined to agree.
